ChurchLingual provides live captions and translation for spoken meetings. One person (the “broadcaster”) runs the iOS app or the web broadcaster at churchlingual.com, which listens to the speaker and produces captions; others (“viewers”) open a link or scan a QR code in their web browser to read or listen to those captions in their chosen language. This policy explains what information is and isn't handled.
With the broadcaster's permission, the app uses the device microphone to turn speech into text. By default this uses Apple's on-device speech recognition, so the audio stays on the device. The broadcaster may optionally select a cloud speech engine for higher accuracy (the web broadcaster always uses it); in that case the microphone audio is streamed to our cloud speech provider (Google Cloud Speech-to-Text) solely to transcribe it in real time. If the broadcaster enables premium spoken audio, the speaker's audio is also streamed to OpenAI in real time solely to produce the translated voice listeners hear. In all cases the audio is used only to generate live captions and audio and is not recorded or retained.
Broadcasting on the free tier requires no account. Churches that use paid features may create an account, for which we store: an email address and church name, a password (stored only as a salted hash, never in plain text), and any details the church chooses to add — a contact name, phone, website, location, congregation size, denomination, custom vocabulary terms, and room names. If you sign in with Google, Google shares your name and verified email with us. We use this information only to provide and support the service.
We never see or store card numbers. Web subscriptions are processed by Stripe; we store only the subscription status needed to operate your plan. In-app subscriptions are processed by Apple; if you enable web access for an app subscription, we verify Apple's signed receipt and store the subscription's identifier and expiry.
For accounts with plan limits we meter minutes of cloud translation used, and we keep a per-broadcast session record — when a broadcast happened, how long it ran, which languages were offered, and the peak number of connected viewers. These are counts only: viewers are never identified, and no caption content is stored with them.
We send transactional email to account holders (welcome, password reset). If you submit a form on our site (feedback, a callback request, or a quote request), what you write — and any contact details you include — is emailed to us so we can respond. Questions typed into the support assistant are processed by Google's Gemini API to generate an answer and are not used to identify you.
Viewers don't need an app or an account. Your chosen reading language and text size are saved only in your own browser (local storage) so the page remembers them. We don't collect your name, contacts, or other personal information, and we don't track you across sites.
Account information is kept while the account is active. You can permanently delete your account at any time — in the app under Settings, or from your dashboard at churchlingual.com/account — which deletes the account, its vocabulary terms, rooms, session records, and usage history, and cancels any subscription. Or email [email protected] and we'll do it for you.
ChurchLingual is intended for use in congregational and family settings and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected by updating the date above.
